Panish | Shea | Ravipudi LLP attorneys are honored to have served as counsel in two plaintiff cases named to the list of Daily Journal’s Top Verdicts for 2025. The cases selected for recognition — Hakimi v. City of Los Angeles and Cheng v. Amphastar Pharmaceuticals, Inc. — were named among the Top Verdicts by Impact, a distinction held by only 10 plaintiff cases tried in California that changed the legal landscape in 2025.
The feature article on Hakimi v. City of Los Angeles highlights the work of Rahul Ravipudi, Tom Schultz, Jonathan Davidi, and Tyler Paboojian who obtained a $48,792,870 jury verdict in Los Angeles County Superior Court for Mr. Hakimi, a father of five who remains comatose nearly 18 months after being struck by a sanitation truck while crossing the street in a marked crosswalk. The City of Los Angeles admitted its driver’s negligence was the sole cause of the incident but disputed the value of damages suffered by our client.
“I was speechless as they tried to devalue this man’s life,” said Rahul Ravipudi.
The feature article on Cheng v. Amphastar Pharmaceuticals, Inc. highlights the $34.1 million jury verdict obtained by Brian Panish, Tom Schultz, Andrew Schrader, and Diana Panish in San Bernardino County for an elderly pedestrian who suffered severe injuries after being struck while on the sidewalk by a vehicle driven by an Amphastar Pharmaceuticals Co-Founder who ran a red light. Defendants admitted liability before trial, leaving the jury to determine the amount of damages to award the 80-year-old plaintiff.
“They conceded the injuries, but fought us on general damages,” Brian Panish said. “They said he was too old. Our position was that these were his golden years, and his enjoyment of life was taken away.”
