14,909 Chevy Malibus Recalled By GM Due to Fire Threat

Posted on November 25, 2013

Chevy Malibus of the 2013 model year are being recalled by General Motors because of a defect that could pose a host of safety issues.  Each of the affected 14,909 automobiles will have an 8-way power adjustable front seat.  Because the seat frame could make contact with the wiring harness of this component, chafing becomes a possibility.  Over time, this could lead the wires to become exposed and suffer a short circuit.  Not only could the seat cease to function or even move, the sparks thrown off from beneath the unit could cause the lights to flicker or prompt a fire to break out.  Once the recall starts next month, owners who receive a notification from General Motors will be able to get a free inspection and repairs from dealers.
