A citizen in Westport, Connecticut has developed a product that aims to inhibit an individual’s ability to use their smartphone when behind the wheel of an automobile. Known as SafeRide, the Android-ready device works by way of a small device which gets plugged into the vehicle console. The device then connects to the phone via Bluetooth, and once it detects the phone, the functions of that phone are disabled. The developer of the device talks up the ability of the device to disable all those alerts that normally cause one to avert their eyes to their phone. He compares the technology to Nicorette. For those interested, the device is set to roll out this July for just under $50.
