Students at San Anselmo’s Sir Francis Drake High School recently got a startling look at the impact that texting while driving can have on families. The teens were privy to an event that combined a driving simulator with firsthand accounts of how texting dramatically altered the lives of citizens. It’s all part of Distracted Driving Awareness Week at the school. AT & T was responsible for bringing their texting and driving simulator by as part of the company’s “It Can Wait” program. Many of the students participating found themselves sustaining a collision when they attempted to text and focus at the road at the same time. The Safe Routes to School program also helped put together the event, which featured a speech from a man who lost his daughter in an accident caused by texting at the wheel.
