Many who participated in a survey from the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety appear hypocritical when it comes to cellphone usage while driving. Although nine out of ten respondents said they thought distracted driving was a serious problem on our nation’s roadways, many of these folks are the very same people who use their phones at the wheel. What’s more, cellphone users were far more likely to engage in other risky tactics than their non-distracted counterparts. Speeding, for instance, was done by 31% of people who didn’t also use their phone, while that percentage more than doubles among those who do use their phones. Texting was 3% versus 53% (phone neglecters compared to phone users), while drowsy driving was 14% versus 44%.
