David Shay

David Shay is a trial attorney at Panish | Shea | Ravipudi LLP, where he concentrates his practice on representing victims of catastrophic personal injury and wrongful death cases across California. With more than 20 years of experience, he brings seasoned advocacy and unwavering commitment to every courtroom appearance on behalf of injured individuals and grieving families throughout the state.
Prior to joining Panish | Shea | Ravipudi LLP, Mr. Shay spent nearly a decade as the lead trial attorney at another plaintiffs’ firm, serving as first-chair trial counsel in more than a dozen trials and arbitrations. During that time, he secured numerous significant results, including a $3,100,000 verdict against a major shopping mall company, a $2,757,114 verdict against a trucking company, a $1,730,000 verdict against a major transportation company, and a $1,697,073 verdict against a crane operations company. He also played a pivotal role in the landmark decision Randy’s Trucking v. Superior Court (2023) 91 Cal.App.5th 818, a seminal case authorizing the disclosure of neuropsychological raw data and testing materials from defense experts in traumatic brain injury litigation.
Mr. Shay began his legal career representing Fortune 500 companies as a defense attorney before dedicating his practice to advocating for individuals harmed by corporate negligence and misconduct.
Mr. Shay has been named to the list of Southern California Super Lawyers since 2025 and previously named to the list of Super Lawyer’s Southern California Rising Stars from 2012-2020. He is an active member of the Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles, the Consumer Attorneys of California, and the American Association for Justice.
A native of the Midwest, Mr. Shay earned his Juris Doctor from The George Washington University Law School and his undergraduate degree from the University of Maryland. He has lived in California since completing law school and remains a devoted supporter of Maryland athletics—no matter the score.
Mr. Shay is also proud to have achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest and most prestigious rank in Scouting America. Outside the office, he enjoys soccer, skiing, traveling, attending concerts, and cooking for family and friends.
