A recall has been issued that affects vehicles that are driven in cold weather in which the road is exposed to heavy amounts of salt and other agents in order to promote thawing. 150,000 Tacoma pickup trucks of the 2001 through 2004 model years have been recalled by Toyota, but this recall only encompasses trucks registered in the Rust Belt. Deicing agents could lead a spare tire carrier to experience corrosion and rust, and if this happens in sufficient levels, then the spare could come off the vehicle entirely and pose a crash risk. Toyota is attempting to ascertain how best to go about fixing the issue for consumers, and once they alight upon a suitable solution, they will initiate proceedings to get in touch with owners.
