Radio Flyer Recalls Riding Toy Due to Fall, Injury Hazard

Posted on August 16, 2011

In a news release Tuesday, Radio Flyer, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, announced a voluntary recall of a children’s riding toy due to a risk of the toy tipping over, posing a fall hazard to young children.

Subject to recall are approximately 165,000 Scoot ‘n’ Zoom children’s riding toys. The toys have the potential of tipping over, which would cause a child riding the toy to fall forward. Chicago-based Radio Flyer firm has received at least 10 reports of incidents, six of which included complaints of injuries. Of the injury reports, three recounted incidents in which teeth were loosened or removed and three involved chin lacerations that required stitches.

The red, molded plastic riding toy has black wheels and measures 11 inches wide, 19 inches long, and 13.5 inches tall. The riding toy affected by the recall bears the model number 711 molded on the toy’s underside. Not subject to recall are similar toys displaying the model number 711B on a yellow UPC sticker on the toy’s underside.

The riding toy was sold from August 2010 through August 2011 at Walmart stores and other retailers as well as online at and for about $20.

Consumers are urged to take the recalled riding toy away from children and contact Radio Flyer to arrange a free replacement toy or a refund.

I sincerely hope that no other children were harmed as a result of playing with the recalled riding toy. As a Los Angeles personal injury lawyer, I encourage parents and care givers to keep children safe by immediately arranging for a replacement riding toy or returning the toy for a refund.
